Imran Khan blames women’s clothing for rape

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan has come under fire for blaming women’s clothing for the rise in rape cases. In a recent interview, he remarked, “The increase in rape cases in any society indicates that pornography has increased.”

According to Qatar-based Al Jazeera, the Pakistani prime minister also advised women to dress modestly. He said, ‘The essence of the screen is to refrain from attracting. Not everyone has the will to restrain themselves. ‘

Following Imran Khan’s remarks, various rights groups, including human rights groups, protested and condemned the incident. Many also signed a statement online on Wednesday. The statement described Imran Khan’s remarks as “flawed, rude and dangerous”.

The statement said, “The crime of rape only falls on the rapist and (like Imran Khan’s comment) the culture of speech encourages the rapist.”
Earlier, the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan said on Tuesday that they were “shocked” by Imran Khan’s remarks.

In Pakistan last year, a police officer reprimanded a raped woman for going out at night without a male partner. Protests spread across the country in protest of the incident.
