The 150-bed corona ward of Sher-e-Bangla Medical College (Shebachim) Hospital in Barisal, the only dedicated corona hospital in the Barisal division, is now facing a bed crisis. The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) has 12 beds, but all are now full. Due to this many patients are not getting ICU services. At the same time, the doctor-staff crisis is evident.
The administration has held an emergency meeting with the hospital authorities on Sunday to resolve these issues. Barisal Divisional Commissioner. Saiful Hasan, Divisional Health Director Basudeb Kumar Das, Deputy Commissioner Jasim Uddin Haider and City Corporation Chief Executive Officer. Farooq Hasan took part in the meeting. At the end of the meeting, the officials of the departmental and district administration visited the main building and corona ward of the hospital.
The newly appointed director of the hospital HM Saiful Islam chaired the meeting, the principal of the medical college. Moniruzzaman Shahin and Civil Surgeon Monowar Hossain among others were present. At the meeting, the doctors highlighted the problems and crises of the main building of the hospital and the Corona unit.
Doctors at the meeting said the hospital is currently in dire need of doctors, MLSS and cleaners and ICU technicians. The corona unit has not yet had a lift, making it difficult for patients to get around. The stairs of the new building of the Corona unit were damaged while the oxygen cylinder was moving.
Doctors also said that the entire hospital campus has been turned into a garbage dump as the city corporation has not removed the garbage for a year. If these problems are not resolved quickly, it is not possible to get the expected medical services at Shebachim Hospital.
Divisional Commissioner. Saiful Hasan promised to solve these problems of Shebachim College Hospital within the next 10 days. He promised to solve the problem for the time being with the help of two new lifts in Corona Ward and two lifts in the old building, manpower removed through waste removal and outsourcing.
