A court has granted one-day remand to Romana Islam Swarna, a model and actress arrested on charges of embezzling more than crores of rupees from a Saudi expatriate. Police on Tuesday applied for a seven-day remand in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mamunur Rashid. Following the hearing, the judge granted him a one-day remand.
On March 11, Saudi expatriate Kamrul Islam filed a case against six other people, including actress Swarna, for embezzling money. The next day, police arrested Swarna, her mother Shelley and son Annafi. They are currently in jail.
The plaintiff, Kamrul, alleged in the case that he was forced to stay at Swarna’s house for a few days and left for Saudi Arabia on April 6, 2019. After moving to Saudi Arabia, Swarna used to have regular contact with the plaintiff and he used to pay her regular household expenses. After four or five months, plaintiff Kamrul came to Bangladesh from Saudi Arabia and wanted to meet him, but Swarna treated him badly and refused to meet him.
When the plaintiff spoke to Swarna’s family about this, they also threatened and intimidated him. As Swarna’s behavior seemed suspicious, he told the plaintiff that he did not have the flat and the car.
Kamrul filed the case in the court on January 8, 2020. After the case, Kamrul withdrew the case and returned to Saudi Arabia to return the gold money, gold ornaments, flat and car.
When Kamrul came to Bangladesh from Saudi Arabia on February 12 this year, Swarna forbade him to go to Lalmatia’s house. When he called at around 12 pm on February 16, Swarna started threatening and threatening him with vulgar language. Mohammadpur Police Station SI Saiful Islam and the force went to the house around 3 pm. According to the security of the house, Swarna returned home at around 2.40 pm. Police later arrested him and his family members.
