Bangladesh and hosts Sri Lanka have met in the first Test of a two-match series at the Pallekele Stadium in Kandy. Bangladesh decided to bat after winning the toss in the morning. Bangladesh and host Sri Lanka have met in the first Test of the two-match series. Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bat at the Pallekele Stadium in Kandy.
Mumimul Bahini has started playing with three fast bowlers in today’s match. Taskin Ahmed, Ebadat Hossain and Abu Zayed Rahi are in the team. Young left-arm pace bowler Shariful Islam did not get a place in the XI.
Saif Hasan has started Bangladesh’s innings with Tamim Iqbal. Besides, Nazmul Hossain Shant and Mushfiqur Rahim are in the team. Taizul Islam and Mehedi Hasan Miraj are the spinners.
On the other hand, the hosts also started playing with 2 fast bowlers and 3 spinners. Experienced Angelo Mathews has been replaced but Dinesh Chandimal has not been named in the XI.
Bangladesh will take to the field today in the first Test of a two-match series against Sri Lanka. The Bangladesh Cricket Board-BCB has also announced the final squad of 15 members. The visiting Tigers will play their first Test against the hosts on April 21 (Wednesday) at the Pallekele Stadium in Sri Lanka.
Young left-arm pace bowler Shariful Islam has been named in the squad for the first Test. However, the all-rounder, who returned to the starting line-up with a lot of discussion, is not in the main team. Apart from Shubhagat, Naeem Hasan, Syed Khaled Ahmed, Mukidul Islam, Shahidul Islam and Nurul Hasan Sohan did not get a place in the main team.
In the last series against West Indies, Sohan and Khaled did not get a place in the main squad. Despite taking six wickets in two Tests in that series against the Caribbean, Naeem could not bowl very well overall. Later he could not do well by playing one round in the national league. Couldn’t do anything significant in the two-day warm-up match in Sri Lanka. He had to pay compensation for losing his place.
Shariful, a member of the Under-19 World Cup winning team, recently toured New Zealand and got a taste of international cricket with T20. Although he did not do well in his debut match, his bowling in the next two matches was quite eye-catching. The 19-year-old pacer also got a chance for the first time in the elite version of cricket.
The 15-member team includes pace bowler Shariful and four others. The final XI will be selected from this 15-member squad.
