Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh has protested against the news of Allama Junaid Babungari’s secret meeting with BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia a week before the May 5, 2013 incident. The organization has claimed that the news published in various media is a ‘lie’.
A letter of protest was sent to the media on Wednesday (April 21) on behalf of Hefazat-e-Islam’s central naib Ameer Hafez Maulana Tajul Islam (Pir Sahib Firoz Shah).
Maulana Tajul Islam said, “The police have made false confessions from Mufti Fakhrul Islam to tarnish the top leadership of Hefazat. This confession is nothing but a deep conspiracy against a universally respected top scholar. The countrymen have rejected such false confessions with hatred.
He said, “I have learned from Hefazat Amir that he told the police on remand in 2013 that he had never met Khaleda Zia face to face in Babungari. But Mueenuddin Ruhi and Fakhrul Islam have lied about it. They will not be able to present any evidence in support of this claim.
Maulana Tajul Islam said, ‘In the month of Ramadan, old false cases are being filed against the Alem-Ulama and repression is being carried out. A few leaders who have deviated from the norm are being used as chess pieces. But 2013 is not a long time ago. If you still search the internet, you can easily find the news published in the national newspapers at that time, what was the role of any leader at that time.
In the protest letter, Maulana Tajul Islam demanded an end to repression, false cases and slander against the government and the administration.
Referring to the confessional statement given to the court by Mufti Fakhrul Islam, then Dhaka Metropolitan Publicity Secretary of Hifazat, it was reported in various media that the then General Secretary of Hifazat had a secret meeting with Khaleda Zia just a week before he went to observe Hifazat Islam blockade at Shapla Chattar on May 5. Junaid Babungari. In addition, several top leaders of the then BNP and Jamaat provided financial support for the May 5 violence. BNP-Jamaat leaders and activists also took part in the violence.
