A two-taka iftar market has been set up at Taltoli in Barguna on the initiative of a local social organization called ‘Suryashikha Social Organization’. Maintaining social distance from the epidemic coronavirus, the organization is selling Iftar for only Tk 2 among the fasting people by setting up temporary stalls in the bright premises of the upazila.
Taltoli Upazila Awami League President and Upazila Parishad Chairman Rezbi Ul Kabir Jomaddar officially inaugurated the two-taka iftar sale market at 4pm on Wednesday. Also present at the time – Taltoli police OC. Kamruzzaman Mia, Upazila Chhatra League President Sarwar Hossain Swapan and all the volunteer workers of the organization.
It has been reported that with the funding of the well-wishers of the organization, every year on the occasion of the month of Ramadan, iftars are sold for two rupees for the helpless and poor people. This market sells Iftar to around 250 to 300 people every day. About 10 items including boots, mudri, dates, onions and apples were given in an iftar packet of two rupees.
Rafiqul Islam Antar, president of Suryashikha Social Organization, said, “Today we have organized Iftar for 300 people and brought it for sale at the market.” However, we have tried to organize Iftar for 500 people every day. Outbreaks of the epidemic Corona virus, the general public is helpless, many people can not say for fear of public shame. Thinking about them, we set up an iftar market for two rupees.
A teenager named Akram Ali (18) has been accused of suffocating a schoolboy named Emon Hossain (12) in Ullapara of Sirajganj for giving information about the theft of a mobile phone. The incident took place at Bara Kwaliber village of Bara Pangasi Union in the upazila on Wednesday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Emon, son of Amirul Islam of the village. He was a sixth grader at the big Qualiber High School. Police have arrested accused Akram Ali in the incident. He is the son of Sarwar Hossain of the same village.
According to police and local sources, Akram Ali stole the mobile phone of a man named Abu Saeed on April 15 in Bara Koaliber village of Bara Pangasi Union of the upazila. When the schoolboy Emon came to know about the theft, he informed Abu Saeed about it and Akram got angry. When Emon went to play in the village field on Wednesday afternoon, Akram called him and took him to a nearby cornfield, wrapped a towel around his neck and suffocated him to death. After realizing the matter, Golap Mia, the owner of the maize field, called the locals and arrested Akram and informed the police. Police went to the spot, arrested Akram and recovered his body and took it to the police station.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Ullapara Model Police Station Deepak Kumar Das said the body was recovered and brought to the police station. Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib will be sent to Mujib General Hospital in Sirajganj for autopsy on Thursday morning. The accused teenager has been detained and kept in police custody. A case has been filed in this regard. He said he would be sent to jail through the court on Thursday morning.
