Birampur police have arrested six Jamaat leaders in a sabotage case. They have been sent to Dinajpur jail through a court. Earlier, police arrested a total of nine people, including three in the same case. They were arrested from different places of the upazila on Saturday morning. Officer-in-charge (OC) of Birampur Police Station Mohammad Moniruzzaman confirmed the matter. The arrested are Hafizul Islam (54) of Eidgah residential area of the upazila, Enamul Haque (43) of Professor Para area, Majnur Rahman (48) of Dior Union, Yakub Ali (48) of Shimlatali area, Professor Mokshed Ali Mandal (50) of Mojibur Rahman of Katla Union.
According to the case file, on March 17, Hafizur Rahman and Enamul Haque vandalized several vehicles in Dhaka city with sticks, brickbats and Jamaat festoons in their hands. When the police arrived at the spot, they fled but arrested three Jamaat leaders.
The next day, he filed a case under Section 15 (3) of the Special Powers Act, 1974, accusing about 26 people and several anonymous accused. During the incident, 15 bamboo sticks, 10 tree branches, several small and large pieces of bricks and 32 paper festoons (with the inscription Bangladesh Islami Chhatrashibir) were recovered.
When asked, Officer-in-Charge of Birampur Police Station OC Moniruzzaman Monir said Birampur is a peace-loving area. Strict action will be taken against them if they try to cause chaos here.
Birampur Circle Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mithun Sarkar said, “Our operation is continuing. Everyone accused of attempted sabotage will be brought under the law.
Hundreds of railway police and RNB members took part in an hour-long exercise today to prevent an attack on the Chittagong railway station.
The exercise was held at Chittagong Railway Station from 12 noon to 1 pm on Saturday. Hundreds of railway police and RNB members took part in the exercise.
It was seen in the exercise that suddenly some people started rioting with sticks and stones in the railway station area. Members of the Railway Police and Railway Security Force (RNB) came forward to stop them. They started protesting by burning tires despite calling for the hand mic to be removed. Then the police action started. Protesters were dispersed by throwing rubber bullets. Several people who were fueling the sabotage were arrested from the spot. Several members of the RNB were injured in the attack.
The exercise was organized as part of RNB members to prepare for the attack on the station. The exercise has been practiced on how to deal with attackers to save passengers and railway assets.
