The families of every worker killed in the workers’ protest at the power plant under construction at Banshkhali in Chittagong will get two lakh rupees. Besides, Rs 50,000 will be provided for the treatment of each of the injured workers. This assistance will be provided from the Bangladesh Workers Welfare Foundation Fund under the Ministry of Labor and Employment. State Minister for Labor and Employment Mannujan Sufian said in a statement on Monday (April 26th).
The state minister of labor further said, ‘The incident in Banshkhali is very tragic and painful. When a working person from a working family dies, that family becomes helpless. The helpless workers’ families have the opportunity to get assistance from the Labor Welfare Fund of the Ministry of Labor.
The state minister prayed for the souls of the slain workers. He also wished a speedy recovery to those injured.
According to the Bangladesh Labor Act, the Bangladesh Workers Welfare Foundation fund provides up to a maximum of Tk 200,000 to the family of a worker killed in an accident at work and up to Tk 50,000 for the treatment of the injured.
On April 17, at the center of the city Banshkhali kayalabidyut five workers killed in police firing during a protest demanding 11 workers and injured 3. The deceased were identified as Mahmud Hasan Rahat, 22, son of Farooq Ahmed of Kishoreganj and Mohammad Ullah, son of Oli Ullah of Chuadanga. Roni Hossain (23), son of Abdul Matin of Noakhali.
