Debashish Kumar Sarkar beat up a 45-year-old timber trader Sanjay in Abhaynagar of Jessore for not giving him a cupboard key. Besides, the old mother and daughter of Debashish were injured in the beating of the robbers. Debashish’s wife was also hacked and injured. They have been admitted to the hospital.
The deceased was identified as Debashis Kumar Sarkar, the only son of late Gaur Chandra Sarkar of Chalishia village. The incident took place at Debashish’s house in Palpara area of Chalishia village in Chalishia union of the upazila on Monday (April 26) morning.
The injured have been identified as Debashish Kumar Sarkar alias Sanjay’s mother Minti Sarkar (65), wife Nipa Sarkar (31) and only daughter Devika Sarkar (18).
The victim’s mother Minti Sarkar said, “A group of 7-8 masked robbers broke the kitchen window grill and entered the house on Monday morning.” They go to my son’s house and ask for the key to the cupboard. When they refused, they started beating my son. At that time I ran into the room at the boy’s shout. They beat my son with iron rods. The boy’s wife Nipa rushed forward to save her husband, but the robbers stabbed him in the neck and back. Seeing this scene, my grandson Devika and I shouted and they beat and injured both of us. Later, the robbers broke into the cupboard and snatched the money, gold ornaments and Rs 30,000 from me, the gold chain around my neck, bangles and earrings. ‘
Neighbors later rescued them and admitted them to the Upazila Health Complex, Minti Sarkar said.

It is not possible to determine the cause of death without an autopsy. The two injured have been released after initial treatment. The seriously injured Nipa Sarkar has been shifted to Khulna Medical College Hospital for better treatment. His body bore the marks of a sharp weapon.
Jessore Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) SI Rezwan, who was present at the spot, said, ‘The cupboard in the deceased’s house was found broken. The kitchen window grill was cut. Signs of blood were found inside the house. It is unknown at this time what he will do after leaving the post. Several teams of police are working to unravel the mystery of the murder.
Abhaynagar police officer in charge (OC) said. Moniruzzaman told Kaler Kantha, ‘It is not possible to say now whether it is robbery or theft. However, it is believed that businessman Sanjay was beaten to death after identifying one of the culprits. Her family members were hacked and beaten. The case has not been filed yet. The body has been sent to Jessore morgue for autopsy. Police are conducting an operation to nab those involved in the murder.
