Hefazat-e-Islam has announced a nationwide strike on Saturday and a strike on Sunday morning and evening to protest the killing and attack of leaders, activists and protesting worshipers in Dhaka, Chittagong and Brahmanbaria. The announcement was made at a press conference at Purana Paltan at 8pm on Friday by the organisation’s central naib Amir Abdur Rab Yousufi.
A leader told Prothom Alo that Amir Junaid Babungari of Hefazat-e-Islam sent a video message from Chittagong before the press conference.
Abdur Rab Yousufi said, “I am announcing this program on behalf of Amir Junaid Babungari of Hifazat-e-Islam.” Numerous worshipers were injured and arrested. This program has been given in protest.
Hefazat-e-Islam’s Dhaka Metropolitan Committee President Maulana Junaid Al Habib, General Secretary Maulana Mamunul Haque, Central Finance Secretary Monir Hossain Qasemi, Co-Organizing Secretary Ataullah Amin and other central leaders were present at the press conference.
Mamunul Haque said the manner in which the police and government forces attacked the protesting worshipers on this day of the golden jubilee of independence would mark a scandalous chapter in the history of Independence Day.
