Abdul Saeed Quader Mirza, younger brother of Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader and Mayor of Basurhat Municipality of Noakhali, has announced his resignation from the Awami League but it has not followed the party’s constitution, said Abu Saeed Al Mahmud, the newly-appointed Chittagong Awami League organizing secretary.
Abu Saeed Al Mahmoud, the party’s central organizing secretary, told Prothom Alo that in order to resign from the party voluntarily, he had to submit his resignation letter to the organizing committee of which he was a member. It will be effective only if the concerned committee accepts the resignation letter. As far as I know, Abdul Quader Mirza has announced his resignation on Facebook. That was not in accordance with the constitution.
Abu Saeed Al Mahmood is also the Whip of the Jatiya Sangsad and a Member of Parliament from Joypurhat-2 (Kalai-Khetlal-Akkelpur) constituency.
Abu Saeed Al Mahmood has been the Organizing Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League since 2009. He was the Organizing Secretary of Rajshahi Division for two consecutive terms. He was the organizing secretary of Khulna division from 2016 to 2019. He was also in charge of Rangpur division from January 2020. Abu Saeed Al Mahmud, who has been the organizing secretary of the Awami League for almost a decade, has been given the responsibility of the latest Chittagong division.
Abu Saeed Al Mahmoud said, “The Awami League needs to be well-organized to deal with the destructive activities of Hefazat-e-Islam in the Chittagong division, including arson.” We have to give utmost importance to revive the dormant organizational units. Patriotic people must unite in the face of reactionary groups and any conspiracy. Good teamwork is needed to strengthen the team organizationally. I want to delve deeper into the problem to identify the causes of organizational divisions. 15 organizational districts including Chittagong metropolis are in this division. It will be very challenging to bridge the gap and organize the team. But I want to use that past experience to win that challenge. ‘
Referring to his past duties, Abu Saeed Al Mahmood said, “During my two terms as the Organizing Secretary of Rajshahi Division, I have completed ward, union, municipal and upazila-district conferences in eight districts except Naogaon’s Manda and Mahadevpur, Pabna’s Chatmohar and Chapainawabganj’s Nachol upazila.” After getting the responsibility of Khulna division, I have organized teams in almost all the districts except Chuadanga and Meherpur. I have held conferences in seven districts. After taking charge of Rangpur division, we have organized organizational meetings in all the districts of Corona. I have formed full committees in 4 districts. We have completed the preparations for the conference to form the newly formed Rangpur Metropolitan Five Thana Committee. ‘
Abu Saeed Al Mahmud said that it would be more challenging to perform duties in the Chittagong division than other divisions. For this reason, it will not be very happy to be the organizational secretary here. But wherever I have served, I have tried to reorganize and organize the party as directed by Awami League President Sheikh Hasina. ‘
Addressing the local leadership of the Chittagong Division, Abu Saeed Al Mahmood said, “Wherever I have served, I have said ‘no’ to bouquets, reception culture, showdowns and flattery.” It will remain intact even while performing the duties of Chittagong division. ‘
In addition to Abu Saeed Al Mahmud being given charge of Chittagong Division, Mirza Azam has been given redistribution to Dhaka Division, Ahmed Hossain to Sylhet Division, BM Mozammel Haque to Khulna Division, SM Kamal Hossain to Rajshahi Division, Afzal Hossain to Barisal Division, Shafiul Alam Chowdhury to Mymensingh and Sakhawat Hossain to Rangpur Division. .
