Referring to the Brahmanbaria riots as pre-planned, Awami League joint general secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif said the attack came at a time when 50 years of independence were being celebrated.
He said that BNP, Jamaat and Hefazat have done this work in a planned manner to cover our golden jubilee. Tried to smear Kalema with a subversive act.
He made the remarks while visiting Brahmanbaria Press Club with a delegation of Central Awami League at 12 noon on Wednesday. Earlier, Press Club General Secretary Jabed Rahim Bijan informed Mahbubul Alam Hanif about the attack on the Press Club.
During the strike of Hifazat-e-Islam on March 26, Hifazat activists attacked and vandalized several public and private establishments including the Brahmanbaria Press Club. Hefazat activists also attacked some journalists that day.
Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif said, “We will tell the Prime Minister that those involved in this incident must be brought under the law and severely punished to prove that such destructive activities cannot be carried out in an independent state.”
Similar to the destruction in 1971, destructive activities have been carried out in Brahmanbaria. These will not be tolerated in any way. I assure you, this time we will take strict legal action.
He added, “Those in custody are not supposed to have gunpowder. We saw the use of this gunpowder in 1971. And I have seen various subversive activities of Jamaat. In Brahmanbaria, it is clear that the use of gunpowder in subversive activities is again on the shoulders of Hefazat, Jamaat and BNP. They have carried out this terrorist act.
Hanif said, “It would not be right to allow Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit Bangladesh from the beginning of last March. It will be a hindrance. The BNP has incited the religious business parties to make such statements.” BNP leaders are saying that the government will fall by 2021. On what basis are they hoping for the fall of the government? There is no organizational activity of BNP in the country which can destabilize the government. They do not have their own capabilities, they are now relying on the religious business parties Hefazat and Jamaat. They are saying this kind of thing (fall of government) because they have done it.
At this time Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif with Brahmanbaria-3 (Sadar and Vijayanagar) MP. A. M. Ubaidul Moktadir Chowdhury, Central Awami League Office Secretary Biplob Barua, Information and Research Secretary Selim Mahmud, Finance and Planning Secretary Wasika Ayesha Khan, Central Volunteer League Leader Moin Uddin, Brahmanbaria District Awami League General Secretary Al Mamun Sarkar and Central Juba League Joint Secretary Md. Al-Aminul Haque was present.
Later, Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif and a delegation of the Central Awami League toured the government and non-government facilities damaged by the fire.
