Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, mayor of the Southern City Corporation (DSCC), said all activities are being implemented to ensure services to the city dwellers. The mayor was speaking at the inaugural function of a week-long free first aid service implemented by the DSCC on the occasion of Mujib’s birth centenary at the Yoginagar Adarsh Balika High School premises in the city on Monday (March 8) morning.
“We are constructing Interim Waste Transfer Centers (STSs) in every ward and we are ensuring the management of waste removal from there,” Tapas said. Mosquito control is being worked on. Social event centers are being set up in every ward.
At that time, he said, I have been cleaning the canals from WASA. 2 lakh metric tons of waste-silt has already been removed from canals and box culverts. As a result, water is flowing in the canals today. Sewers are being cleaned, similarly infrastructure development activities to alleviate the city’s waterlogging are in full swing. Similarly, we have been taking various initiatives to ensure primary health care in the South City Corporation area. He also said that today’s event is a continuation of this.
Tapas further said, “Our goal is to realize the golden Bengal of the dream of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.” Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working towards that goal. Under his leadership, today, in just 12 years, we have achieved the capacity to build the Padma Bridge, become self-sufficient in power generation.
In this context, DSCC Mayor Barrister Sheikh Taposh further said that the father of the nation brought independence to a subjugated nation in less than 30 years just as his worthy daughter has turned a low-income country into a middle-income country at the age of 12 years. So we have that example, that example of achieving in the challenge.
Sheikh Tapas said, we have weakness of manpower, we had weakness of ability. But we are working on it as a challenge. With the support of the people, we will succeed in this challenge as well.
The DSCC mayor said that a playground is being provided for the new generation, adding that in the meantime, the playground has been created in Laxmibazar, Ward 42, by releasing the occupied property. It will be inaugurated next Wednesday.
During this time, the DSCC mayor highlighted other activities in creating a playground in each ward.
ABM Amin Ullah Nuri, Chief Executive Officer of the Corporation, delivered the welcome address at the function conducted by the Deputy Chief Health Officer, DSCC.
Among others, local councilors of ward 36 and women councilors of reserved seats and councilors of wards 41 and 44, local ward Awami League, Juba League and Chhatra League leaders were present on the occasion.
It may be mentioned that under this program, free first aid services will be provided from March 7 to March 10 from Ward No. 1 to Ward No. 38 of the Corporation and on March 11, 13 and 14 in the remaining wards.
Free services will be provided in the respective wards every day from 9 am to 3 pm. That’s why each team has a doctor, a paramedic and an assistant.
