Friday was the bloodiest day so far in the West Bengal Assembly elections. Five people have died in Kochbihar district alone since this morning. Among them, 4 people were killed in the firing of the central forces in the Mathabhanga outpost area of Shitalkuchi assembly constituency.
At a press conference at the Election Commission office on Saturday evening, Ariz Aftab, the state’s election official, virtually avoided answering questions about the incident.
This incident has started a political conflict. Trinamool representatives approached the commission in the afternoon and demanded a reply from the commission. The Trinamool has repeatedly complained that the Election Commission and the central forces are following the BJP’s lead.
After the Trinamool, the BJP delegation also met CEO Ariz Aftab in the evening. Ariz Aftab avoided directly answering the question at a press conference as to why the shots were fired in such a manner.
He simply said shots were fired outside the booth in special circumstances. The reports of the district magistrate, superintendent of police and special observers and police observers have been received and will be sent to the Delhi Election Commission.

On the other hand, Mamata said that she will go to Shitalkuchi tomorrow. The incident has sparked a political debate and the central government has been asked to respond.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission said that the firing was carried out by the forces. Trinamool MP Dola Sen said, “This blood valley is not my country, we want peace.”
Trinamool claims that 4 dead are Trinamool activists. In the incident, the Election Commission has stopped voting in that booth.
